Back in 1998, Stuart Dagger and Gerry McLaughlin began administering the Counter Hall of Fame vote. The process had actually started the year before, during the last year of Counter’s predecessor, Sumo Magazine. From 1998 to 2010, Counter readers voted on the games they thought belonged in the Hall and elected 39 of them. Needless to say, it’s an excellent collection of games and epitomizes the kinds of designs that Counter reviews.
For the last few years, for a variety of reasons, no Hall of Fame vote was held. But with the rebirth of Counter, we thought it would be a good opportunity to try to revive this tradition. However, it is the readers of Counter who have always done the hard work in selecting these games, so we need your help to determine if there is sufficient interest to make this effort feasible.
If you want to make your feelings about this known, here’s what you can do. Visit this link and register your vote:
We’d like to get a feel for the level of support for the Hall in time for the next issue, so please cast your votes before October 15th.
Hopefully, a goodly number of you will be interested in participating in a Hall of Fame vote. If there is sufficient interest, we’ll lay out the ground rules and some candidate games in the next issue. Thanks!
